Our Wedding

Our story began long before either of us realized it would become a love story. We attended the same high school, shared mutual friends, had siblings who went to school together and spent years orbiting the same circle without ever knowing exactly where it would lead.Then came 2020.After The Unicorn closed, Katie began spending more time at Jailhouse with mutual friends Janet and Jason, Jill, Greg and Jeremy. One night, Jack walked into the bar, and Katie saw him for the first time in years. Her reaction was immediate enough that she texted Jill and asked, “So, what’s up with Jack? Is he single?”There was just one problem: Jack traveled frequently for work, played in a band and seemed entirely too cool to ever settle down and become a relationship guy.As it turns out, Katie could not have been more wrong.Our first official date was a group trip to the House of Blues. A few weeks later, a karaoke night sealed the deal, and by the end of April 2022, we were officially dating. Karaoke has remained a supporting character in our relationship ever since—and, for the record, we always kill it.By October 2022, we knew this was becoming something serious. We took our first road trip together, driving all the way to Key West and back. Anyone who can spend that many hours in a car together and still want another road trip has probably found their person. In April 2023, at the Piston Power Show, Jack asked Katie to move in with him.Since then, we have built quite the travel résumé. We have driven to Key West twice, taken a spooky road trip through Salem and into Maine and Vermont, traveled to Ireland, driven to Colorado for a ski trip and squeezed in countless smaller adventures along the way. Wherever we go, we inevitably find a karaoke bar—and somehow, even the drives with no destination become some of our favorite memories.On July 11, 2025, Jack pulled off the ultimate surprise.During one of our Patio Par-Tee events at Brentwood, Jack called Katie onto the stage. With her birthday coming up on July 16, everyone assumed he was about to lead the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday.” Instead, Jack pulled out a cloth napkin, carefully placed it on the ground, got down on one knee and asked Katie to become his wife.It could not have been more perfect. These live-music nights were something we had started building together the previous summer, and just a few weeks earlier, Katie had told her dad how incredible it would be if Jack proposed there someday. Jack wisely waited until the morning of the proposal to ask Kevin for his blessing—giving him as little time as possible to accidentally spill the beans.The surprise worked. Katie never saw it coming.Today, we share a beautiful life with our dog, Dodger, and our cat, Penny. We complement one another in our careers, challenge each other to keep growing and always push one another toward the best versions of ourselves. Katie admires Jack’s patience, loyalty, steady hand and willingness to teach anyone who wants to learn. Most of all, she loves the way he strives to leave every person and every place better than he found them.We are partners, adventure buddies, karaoke champions and truly the best of friends. On October 3, 2026, we begin our favorite adventure yet.

Every love story has a supporting cast, and ours is filled with loyal friends, lifelong family, questionable influences and some of the very best people we know.These are the people who have stood beside us through every season, encouraged our adventures, helped us build the life we love and will now stand beside us as we become husband and wife.

Meet Our People

Nicole is one of Katie’s longest and most treasured friends. As an added bonus, she graduated with Jack and has also been one of his good friends for more than 20 years—which means she knew both halves of this love story long before it ever became one. There was never any question who Katie wanted standing closest to her on the wedding day.

Pete may technically be Jack’s cousin, but their relationship has always been much closer to that of brothers. He has been part of Jack’s life through every era, adventure and questionable decision, making him the obvious choice to stand beside Jack as his Best Man.

Katie met Jen in 2017, when a season of unexpected life changes placed them in one another’s path. Their friendship was immediate. Over the past decade, Jen has remained beside Katie through every version of life—celebrating the happiest moments, helping her through some of the darkest and always encouraging her to keep moving forward.

Jack and Hemphill have been friends since grade school, when they lived near one another and regularly terrorized the neighborhood together. Their friendship began in Mrs. Kitsler’s classroom, where they talked so much that she separated them in an attempt to stop the trouble. It was ineffective. From that point forward, there was no looking back.

Ryan 

Sarah is Jack’s cousin on his mom’s side, but the two were raised much more like brother and sister. Sarah lived with Jack during the 2020 pandemic, which ultimately inspired her to move home permanently from New York City. She has been one of the constants in Katie and Jack’s relationship, and Katie could not be more excited to officially gain both a cousin and a bonus sister.

Wes and Jack have been friends since childhood, when they spent their days riding bikes around Carlisle Avenue and joining Ryan Hemphill in terrorizing the neighborhood. Wes has also been Nikki’s partner for approximately 18 years, making him part of the wider family long before the wedding planning ever began.

Wesley Cruthers

Katie met Taylor shortly after hiring Taylor’s husband, Eddie, at Brentwood Golf Course. Before long, Eddie, Taylor and their entire family had become some of Katie’s closest friends—and eventually, chosen family. Taylor has been instrumental throughout the past several years of Katie’s career, helping keep her sane while also helping her accomplish things that once seemed impossible.

Jason has been one of Jack’s best friends since their Cub Scout days, and they have been nearly inseparable ever since. From fishing and concerts to skiing, mayhem and more than a little mischief, Jason has been beside Jack for a lifetime of stories—many of which are probably best left off the wedding website.

Elizabeth is Katie’s ten-year-old niece and the daughter of Katie’s brother Ryan Flanigan. Being Elizabeth’s aunt has always been one of Katie’s favorite titles, especially as she has watched Elizabeth grow into such a beautiful, intelligent and remarkable young lady. Having her stand beside Katie on the wedding day makes the occasion even more meaningful.

Emmy is the two-year-old daughter of Katie’s cousin, Brian Jones, and one of the smallest—but certainly not least important—members of the wedding party. She has been entrusted with flower-petal duties, although final performance remains entirely subject to the mood of a two-year-old.

Michael is Katie’s eight-year-old nephew, Elizabeth’s little brother and a very enthusiastic fan of both Aunt Katie and his soon-to-be Uncle Jack. That made him the perfect choice to be placed in charge of some extremely important wedding-day hardware.

Eddie is Jack’s cousin, the eldest of the cousins and the first Lugas of their generation to get married. As an ordained officiant with more than 20 years of marriage experience himself, Eddie brings the perfect combination of family history, wisdom and humor to the role. Katie and Jack could not imagine anyone better to lead them into their next chapter as husband and wife.

Long before there were road trips, karaoke duets and Patio Par-Tees, there were the families who raised us, shaped us and taught us what it means to love, work hard and show up for the people who matter.As we begin our marriage, we are not simply choosing one another—we are bringing together two families that mean the world to us.
